Mataneedol School likes to focus on learning both in and out of the classroom and is very keen for our students to take part in active learning during their studies. As part of theGrade7-8 art course Dr. Oratai Santi-Mataneedol accompanied by Teacher Dustin took the students to a small village pottery to learn about the cultural tradition of making pots from clay. They got the chance to learn about the process of making clay pots, and other useful items for use in the home. This is an ancient skill used for thousands of years all over the globe. They learned how to throw a pot on a wheel followed by firing then glazing pottery. This type of hands on learning is much more interesting than reading from books alone and is a useful life skill for them to have in the future.
We would like to thank everyone at the pottery for making the visit so interesting for the students and we look forward to going again next time.
